about

Broken Language was the last track completed by Winduptoys before Robert 'Bo' Boehm passed away in 2014. Bo formulated the original concept for the Intone album in collaboration with Matt Hetherington.

Bo started Broken Language with rhythms and added a wood block melody, bass synth and keyboard.

Jeremy purchased an Electro Harmonix talking machine, used to create vowel sounds, especially for this track. After much experimentation, it was triggered by the hi-hat to create vowel-like vocal beats.

Bo then dug out various instructional language LPs which were sampled and mashed up via Jeremy's Kaoss pad to create the main voices.
